Ensemble Mi was formed after performances of Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, for which they have been praised for their ‘sense of true musical equality’ and ‘vision and intensity’ (The Observer). Ensemble Mi exists to collaborate across artistic disciplines, as well as explore different combinations within – and beyond – the quartet as a flexible ensemble that can expand and contract. The ensemble’s first projects include a version of the Messiaen interspersed with improvisations by pianist/producer Jon Hopkins, guitarist/producer Leo Abrahams and singer/composer/multi-instrumentalist Maddie Ashman.
